Crazy Iron Inflation

When it come to action figure collecting. I prefer 5 or 6" figurines as I find that they look good for the size and pricing. However things are different now.

My Ironman collection only consist of 6" most of which happen to be at from Ironman movie 1 series. During that time, one 6" Ironman figure only cost me SGD $19.90.

When the second movie arrived, Ironman toys had scaled down to 3 3/4 and each cost SGD $18.90. While a handful of 6" was around SGD $26.90 (if my memories serve me well) and boy they were hot and flew off retail shelves before I can get a hold of it especially War Machine.

You can imagine my excitement when I saw the 6" War Machine and Hulk buster at ToysRus retail peg during my Sunday shopping. I was shocked by the price of 6" card packaging War Machine and even check with the staff to verify on the pricing. It was selling at SGD $49.90!!!

My immediate expression was like this...

*What the ...

It's not funny! Can you imagine from SGD $19.90 to SGD $49.90 at a short time span? The figure has no action, light, sound and it was still in card packaging and not a box! Has the cost of Iron I mean plastic increased? What's the justification? Better articulation and coloring? Please don't get me started on painting or coloring. 80% of that toy are plastic original color and the eyes and chest are using stickers!

If it was on a secondary / collector market or store then I can understand but they were on normal retail! That was the listed price!!

It was a distasteful experience. Even though I wanted a 6" War machine to complete my collection, I am not buying it. I was not alone to feel that that way. some of the toy collectors in Singapore felt the same way too. With that amount of money, I would have get a decent voyager class Transformers or other toys. Or just top up a few bucks I can get the Revoltech Ironman Mark VI!!

With the pricing of marvel line, I fear the release of Thor and others to come will be peg to that price range. Remember consumer have a choice and sometime we have to make a stand and if pushes hard enough, collectors will drop on move on to other things.

Do you think the price is reasonable?

S.H.Figuarts Doraemon & Nobita Nobi

At the Japan Sapporo Snow Festival, Bandai has showcase prototype of Doraemon and Nobita 野比のび太 in S.H.Figuarts line.

No official release date was given but this get me excited. Nobita has a detail showcase while Doraemon stood back.

I am keeping my finger cross and hope that two figures will pull through to official release as I remember there were Dragonball S.H.Figuarts showcase last year but to date no news of the release. Chances are Bandai pull out due to the poor response. It's a pity for Dragonball as just when I felt finally Bandai did justice to Dragonball figure... I hope Doraemon and Dragonball will continue in S.H.Figuarts line...

Bubbashelby's Works

Normally I don't do advertorial but this is for a friend of mine who is also a toy collector and a fellow toy blogger, Bubbashelby.

Bubbashelby has a natural talent in drawing cartoons and I always admire his talent in using simple lines to draw life-like characters of his own unique style. He was kind enough to do a drawing of my character OTTi sometime back.

It's my pleasure to see his artwork to be on custom products and for sale to anyone worldwide online. His artworks can be found on Snowboard, T-Shirts, Mug, Sneakers, keychain and even iPhone cover!

How cool is that? Drop by to bubbashelby online store to take your pick.

Dragonball Kaioken Son Goku

This is one of my favorite. The Son Goku before he turn into Super Saiyan. This version was the time he use his newly mastered Kaioken (界王拳) against Vegeta so Goku look rather reddish.

This SD figure capture the essence of Goku mastering all his might using Kaioken.

Kaioken is a skill that instantly increases the user power and speed at the expense of one body. Goku on the whole has to endure not only 10 times the gravity when he execute Kaioken but 20 and 30 times more when he has to match Vegeta. That expression was well presented on this toy.

The figure has some nice details of one of my favorite was Goku hair. It is one hairstyle that even in real life no one can has a convincing hair do of Goku.

There is one detail error though. That period of Goku versus Vegeta, Goku should be having the Kaio logo on his chest rather than one of his own name.

Together with Kulilin, Gohan and Goku, they are the strong Z fighters.

However even the powerful heroes have to take a step back not to offend Bulma. Truthly never mess with a woman unless you want some trouble. :P

So that conclude the collection that I have for this series in my personal collection.

Cast your vote as which should be the best of this series. :D

Dino T.Rex ROAR!

ROAR!! I am going to review this fun and good looking Dino toy which I bought for my kid during our visit to Universal Studio Singapore.

Over at the Jurassic Park theme shop, there were many colors of these same toy but I felt this is the best looking. My son instantly love this toy when I showed him the jaw snapping action. So I have to buy it. LOL
Regardless of it's big head, this toy can balance well on any flat surface and it's light!

You can trigger the snapping action by pulling the trigger on his body. It will close it mouth and make a snapping sound. Upon release of the trigger, the mouth will spring back to open position.

If you need really need to know which kind of dinosaur is this, the answer can be found on his lower jaw. Tyrannosaurus and the toy was made in China.

In some old movies, it was often portray that human was offered as a sacrifice to the dino beast as a token for their own protection to the "god"  or the beast. I try to relive the scene with my Lego Hula girl.

Here's come the human sacrifice...

Yummy. Seems like he is asking for more. :P

Putting him to face off Godzilla seems to steer him toward more aggressiveness. This could be an epic battle.

On the other hand, putting him facing off with Grimlock the Dinobots will be another subject totally even though both are Tyrannosaurus "related"...

PS: This review is done when my son is asleep as only then can I take this toy away from him to review.

What to do, it's a fun toy. Don't you think so? Snap Snap!

Transformers Prime Toys coming

After Transformers Animated, Hasbro studio has come out with CGI animation of Transformers which mixed of the movie and animated design. It is called, Transformers Prime.

Can you identify the mixture of the movie and animated design of the Autobots?

In the whole show, there are 6 Autobots and 3 Decepticons and 4 human characters. Don't be fool by the number of cast, the story and plot is still an exciting one. I leave the show later but let's us look at the toy.

First off here's the Autobots beginning with Optimus Prime.

Retaining much of the live action movie Optimus Prime design in Transformers Prime.

Bumblebee design following much of the live action movie with a slight changes in the vehicle design and robot mode. Bumblebee in this series only speak bi-bi digital sound. Surprisingly, one of his human friend understand what he was talking about.

Acree. The robot design is fantastic and if you do not agree so, I assure the design and character will grow on you for her sensitive side. Nonetheless, she is one strong and brave lady.

No news on Bulkhead and Ratchet toy yet.

On the Con side, Megatron retain his helmet and huge armored design. Given sharp teeth and wicked glowing eyes, Megatron give you a chill.

Starscream in robot mode get much of his feature change which is way better than the movie version in my opinion as he is slimmer. Beside the design changes, his character remain the same as a coward, cunning and ambitious deception.

The story of Transformers Prime is a simple and rather forward ones. Here's one of the episode found on youtube.

Are you into Transformers Prime now?

ANA HG Gundam Unicorn in March and April 2011

ANA Skyproject will be releasing a ANA color theme on HG Gundam Unicorn from March to April 2011.

Just like the previous ANA Gundam promotion, this HG grade will be only for domestic flight within Japan for 5000 Yen during March to April 2011. This mean you can only order on the flight during that period.

If you know Japanese, you can read more about it at ANA website.

It is quite hard for me to get this as it is only open to domestic flight. If this ever come out in international flight from ANA, then it should be the Mega Grade 1/48. However there was no such size of Gundam Unicorn till date.

Personally I felt this color theme Unicorn is way better than the green one. I guess because I love white and blue. Anyway a bitter sweet news for me then...

SpongeBob SquarePants Trexi review

I got this SpongeBob SquarePants Trexi during STGCC 2010.

Yes I did watch SpongeBob SquarePants over at Nickelodeon Channel now and then so I am quite into SpongeBob happy go lucky attitude. When Trexi came out a crossover him, I was pretty excited to check how how he would be as a Trexi figure. It turn out that the essence of SpongeBob was well capture and I love the packaging and color theme.

I love this part of the packaging the most. Cheerful SpongeBob.

Another interesting feature that attract me was the different emotion that was printed on the four side of his head. Everyone of them look so cute.

The label of the maker can be found at the sole of his feet.

I got the STGCC 2010 Trexi together with him so it is logical to display them side by side for comparison for this review. Which is cooler?

Here some interaction of them using SpongeBob faces.

Poor SpongeBob... Don't feel inferior as you can do something cooler that STGCC 2010 Trexi can't. Want to know what he can do? Ready? Ta Ta!

Balancing your whole body using your head. Now how cool is that?

Is SpongeBob SquarePants Trexi Cool / Fun?
