Japanese Art Fiesta 2011

31 May 2011

Last Saturday I met up with a cosplay photography who is also a friend of mine, Hexlord as he was in town for Japanese Art Fiesta.

*I love this Vocaloid shirt on another cosplay photographer that day.

I met other cosplayers and photographers in that event too. During our catching up, we got down to shoot the cosplayers who are having fun in their pockets of friends.

As usual, there are quite number of Miku hatsune cosplay and some of the vocaloid gangs. I can easily count around 10 Miku at the event that day. Some were rushing to Licence 2 Play that day too.

Here's one of the sweet and pink Miku having a strawberry Pocky. When I was there, Hexlord. Fazil and Nutcase are snapping their camera at her.

There are a number of Dragons cosplayers too! A cute one...

And a scary one. No photoshop on the photo below. It's just that I used flash and my hand shaked when he ran toward me. LOL

Time like this, we need a Hero to fight the Dragons.A cosplayer who did everything himself. Respect!

I have to take my hat off for these cosplayers to put up with the heat in such stiff suits under the sun.

Cosplayers aside, the event is suppose to have much Japanese culture lovers to gather together and do some charity works. There are event like singing Japanese anime songs on stage. You can see they really love singing Japanese songs on stage.

I spent most of the time outside the venue to join Hexlord in Photoshooti. Here's a cosplay of Taiga Aisaka from Toradora!

She is one of the good cosplayer I happened to take that day. This shot is Picture prefect. :P

As she was busy posing, I took a shot on the palm size tiger toy. Cute!

I was made fun of as they were busy taking the Cosplayer while I was taking photo of the toy... I hope she's not angry about that. I still take her photo seriously. :P

Here's a lovely Ranka Lee cosplay!

I was glad that Hexlord gave me some pointer on shooting that day especially for this shot. Seeing double. :D

Of course the co-operation of the cosplayers make a big different too as she was confident and natural in front of the camera. So sweet right?

For cosplayers, they come in different forms. Some with very details costume

While others comes in simple Do-it-Yourself suit. It doesn't matter it look sloppy as long others recognized the character they are cosplaying

What matter is the spirit of dressing up and not to be afraid to make a fool out of yourself sometime.

Because even if you do, just make sure you have a gang of friends and photographers to support you on that.

I guess that's what cosplaying is all about.

Sense and Sensibility

30 May 2011

Just last week, the full preview of Hot Toys Christopher Reeve's Superman was out. At the same time, Medicom announced the Black Rock Shooter figure as well. When I looked at both of these toys and their prices, I just have to say the following...

I am a fan of Christopher Reeve as Superman and today, none come close to replacing him as Superman. Naturally when I saw the toy I have a strong desire to get it. However when I looked at the price point at around SGD $250, this toy is totally out of my toy budget. As tempting as it is, I just have to decline to look away of having this Superman in my toy collection.

While I was browsing the same news, Medicom Black Rock Shooter came in. It was more pricey than Superman at the price point of 22,000 Yen which is USD $270 excluding the price the toy seller import in around SGD $330 or so. Now what do you think about that?

Compare to Superman who has a long history in both character in comic and as the movie, Superman did deserve that price point especially for the facial molding and licensing. Now some said that part of the Superman toy earning goes to the late Christopher reeve's foundation so I guess that is another reason on the pricing. But what about Black Rock Shooter?! Black Rock Shooter only comes about less than a decade with some anime, manga and a PSP game. Her "popularity" has very much to do with online marketing as toys.

On another point if you look into Superman and BRS, chances are 10 or 20 years down the line, people will still remember and value Superman and sadly I don't have the confidence to say the same regarding Black Rock Shooter.

For 12 inches Toy collectors, it will be a hard road ahead on collecting as the prices has been increasing and more limited in production. At the rate of pricing on Toys which is getting really crazy, it maybe a good time to exercise some Sense and Sensibility before toy collector become mindless zombie or a sucker leaded by a ring on their nose by toy makers.

If you asked me between Superman and BRS, I would have get Superman for the pricing and quality. Now the problem is only budget. What about you?

The Radioactive Lego Hazmat

29 May 2011

From Lego Minifigure series 4 comes Hazmat Guy with his Radioactive suit.

“This is a job for the Hazmat Guy! Er, do you smell something funny?”

Hazmet is a ordinary guy who out to make a living. His job requirement is risky and that include some clearing of nuclear toxic wastes. I wonder how much he is paid for the job and does his job cover any insurance.

I would imagine Hazmat should had much to fear as it was all written on his face.

One of the coolest feature of this toy would be his helmet.

And another would be his spray gun which is suppose to wash of toxic waste I think...

The back of the helmet comes with a circle plug.

If you are wondering what is the plug for, it is to connect the spray gun. So it is safe to say his job is to clean up some s***, I mean waste.

Now you may asked me what is the spray gun attached to the suit. Does it mean the water comes from Hazmet body? Good question... I don't know either. Maybe some of you can suggest the reason why. If we can't then let's stick it to the classic reason "This is a toy so no need to be logical". :)

Radioactive has been much concern again after Japan had two nuclear reactors incidents and in it some committed workers risk their life on the ground to minimized the damage. Some said it is their responsibility they have to obligate while other said it is their commitment. Whatever it is, they did their best for a mistake they did not commit nor it is manageable by man alone.

Looking back these incidents of Japan in March, I have to say earthquake and Tsunami may cause an instant damage which affect a generation but the Nuclear meltdown is something that affect many generations and the fault purely lies on man thinking they can handle such dangerous energy. So is Nuclear energy still the way to go for cost and convenience or is it just a money making and life risking business?

Anyway to end the Radioactive subject on a better note, here's what happen when Hazmet meet OTTi.

For such uncertain time, this is one toy you got to have to remind yourself of somethings. :P

License2Play & Toy Carnival 2011

28 May 2011

I dropped by License2Play and Toy Carnival on the very first day evening. I figure out it will be less crowded and I will have more comfort to look around. So there I was, at Suntec City hall 401.

The first spot I visited was the Nintendo booth. I wanted to take a look at Nintendo 3Ds in person.

Only the upper screen of the 3DS has the 3D features and there was a adjustment level on that screen to switch from 2D to 3D mode for the comfort level. The graphic with 3D effect look amazing when I saw the demo of the Dead or Alive. However after watching close to 5 minutes, the visual and the game doesn't really keep me going.

There were other fun factors that WOW me tho. Such as the ability to be able to take 3D photo with their inbuilt 3D camera on the 3Ds and the game that uses shape capturing with the camera to attached 3D graphic. One such example was the pokemon character on the card was capture by the camera and the LIVE feed on screen attached a full 3D pokemon on top of the card. when the player move the camera around, as long as the card appear in the screen, the 3D character will move together with the card. Interesting it isn't it?

Sony Playstation 3 was there with much interesting and good looking titles. However I still can't get over the security they had with their network episodes. So until they resolve that with much assurance, I think I will keep at bay.

They were card game corner too for Bushiroad game card matches. Since school holiday is officially on, there were a number of younger players playing their deck of cards.

There were a fair share of Aracade machines at the convention and at the UFO or the toy crawler machine, I saw something familiar....

In case you still don't get it, here's a close up! Are you an angry birds fan?

Toy Carnival was at the same location so it's time for me to report on the toys!

There are quite a number of good bargains and some classic stuff on sales. If you are a 12 inches collector, there are a couple of exclusive stuffs for this event by action city.

I saw some cute Mezitz toys on movie Green Lantern, Hellboy and Clash of the Titans. Neat?

Some good Chogokin Macross offers as well too!

Collections of Figma were on sales too at one of the booth.

Re-issued Danbo returns! Is that price good for you? Still it hasn't move me to get one...Maybe it's the price. Yes...

There were a couple of stores already selling TakaraTomy Transformers movie 3, The dark of the moon toys and some on good offers too! Charming...

If that doesn't work, how about a Tie-Fighter at $30?

I was very tempted but I was discipline as my friend who accompany me for this event commented. LOL

Anyway I didn't get to see much cosplayer because of my timing and I hope over the weekend, there will be more. Meanwhile here's one of the cosplayer who cosplay a Kamen Rider W character!

*Credit to Brendan who took this.

I hope it will be more happening over the weekend. Is it interesting for you?

Robocop coming on Figma

26 May 2011

If the Japanese would do a Robocop toys, I would have guess kaiyodo Revoltech may have do it in their Science Friction series but I was surprise that Figma line took it on with much of the movie accurate pose and accessories.

* Beware of the Roco giving that finger. It's deadly. No joke as he kill one criminal with that.

And guess what? The quality isn't that bad! Just look it Robocop armor in metallic blueish tone! The accessories include his Gun which can fit on his thigh and his sharp data access reading stick.

Robocop certainly look heavy. Maybe diecast like Chogokin? No I don't think so as figma never done any diecast.

Figma Robocop comes with a battle damage helmet and some blasting gun effect.

Like all figma, this toy comes with his stand to keep him in balance. Figma Robocop is expected to come in August 2011.

Will you get this Robocop?

The Blackest Night

25 May 2011

I have started to read the series from DC comic, The Blackest Night!

" The Blackest Night falls from the skies...
...the darkness grows as all light dies...
...we crave your hearts and your demise...
...by my Black Hand--the dead shall rise! "

The story began at the time when some of the Superheroes and Super Villain past away and a black lantern came to call the dead to arise and do the bidding of the black lantern. Can you imagine the dead heroes coming back to live as zombie looking and lost their sense of humanity? Well this is how they look like as a toy from DC direct.

Even Superman is not immune to death. To battle against the black lantern, other color lantern and heroes joined up.

As I am currently reading the comic, I have a urge to get the rings and the toys. For start, maybe I should get myself a Green lantern ring. :P

Are you a fan of this series too?
